Bluford, Guion Stewart, Jr (1942– )

US astronaut. A mission specialist, his four space shuttle flights included two pioneering missions aboard Challenger: on the first flight with a night-time launch and landing (30 August–5 September 1983); and in October 1985 to carry eight crew members on the first Spacelab mission under German control. Bluford became an astronaut in 1979 and left NASA in 1993.
