Blunt, Wilfrid Scawen (1840–1922)

English poet. He travelled in the Middle East, becoming a supporter of Arab nationalism. He also supported Irish home rule (he was imprisoned 1887–88), and wrote anti-imperialist books as well as poetry and diaries.

Blunt was born in Petworth, Sussex. He entered the diplomatic service and served in various British legations in Europe until 1869. Inspired by his travel experiences, he wrote The Future of Islam (1882), among others. His poems include Sonnets and Songs by Proteus (1875) and Esther (1892). His Collected Poetical Works were published in 1914.
