Bobigny

Administrative centre of Seine-St-Denis département, situated in the northeastern suburbs of Paris, France; population (1990) 44,700. It is largely residential, with a range of commercial, office, and light industrial functions.

Bobigny developed between the two world wars when a large quantity of suburban housing was constructed on former agricultural land; many tower blocks were added in the 1960s. In the mid-1980s an extension to the métro system provided an efficient rail link to central Paris.
