Old English sheepdog

Breed of herding dog. It is grey or blue-grey, with white on its head, chest, and legs, and is about 62 cm/24 in at the shoulder. Its long, thick, rough hair grows abundantly over its face. It was formerly used widely in southern England by shepherds and drovers, and its tail was traditionally docked to a stump to show that it was a working dog and so exempt from taxation. It is therefore sometimes known as a bobtail.
