Bogalusa

City in southeastern Louisiana, 92 km/57 mi northeast of New Orleans, at the junction of the Bogue Lusa Creek and the Pearl River; population (2000) 13,700. Forest industries dominate the economy; major reforestation programmes sustain them. Paper and tung oil are manufactured and dairy and beef cattle are raised in the area as well, and the city has other light industries.

Bogalusa was settled in 1906 by the Great Southern Lumber Company, and developed as a pine logging and sawmilling centre. It is home to the Louisiana State University forestry school and to agricultural research stations.
