Bogatirev, Anatoly Vassilevich (1913- )

Russian composer. He studied at the Minsk Conservatory under Zolotarev. Later he studied folksong and became deputy director of the Conservatory at Minsk.

Drama

operas The Two Foscari (after Byron) and In the Thick Woods of Polesye (1939); incidental music for Romashev's Stars Cannot be Dimmed.

Vocal

The Tale of a Bear for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra, cantata To the People of Leningrad.

Chamber

string quartet, piano trio; Manfred suite (after Byron) and variations for piano.

Other

choruses, songs, folksong arrangements. In 1957 he made a performing version (1957) from the sketches of Tchaikovsky's seventh symphony.
