Bogdanovich, Peter

    0.03 sec.

Bogdanovich, Peter (1939- )

US film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. His critically acclaimed The Last Picture Show (1971), an adaptation of the novel by Larry McMurtry, is a nostalgic look at a small Texas town in the 1950s. It was followed by two films that attempted to capture the style of old Hollywood, What's Up Doc? (1972) and Paper Moon (1973).

A former film critic responsible for a number of early book-length auteurist studies of classical Hollywood film-makers like Howard Hawks and Orson Welles, Bogdanovich made his directorial debut in 1968 with the thriller Targets. His subsequent films include the period drama Daisy Miller (1974), the nostalgic comedy Nickelodeon (1976), the Cher vehicle Mask (1985), Texasville (1990) (a sequel to The Last Picture Show), and the country music drama The Thing Called Love (1993), featuring one of River Phoenix's last screen performances.
