Boiardo, Matteo Maria, Count of Scandiano (1434–1494)

Italian translator and poet. He is famed for his Orlando innamorato/Roland in Love (1487), a chivalrous epic glorifying military honour, patriotism, and religion. Ariosto's Orlando furioso (1516) was conceived as a sequel to this work.
