Bois Blanc Island

Island in Lake Huron, northern Michigan, 10 km/6 mi north of Cheboygan; area 91 sq km/35 sq mi; population (1990 est) 100. It is used mostly as a resort.

Situated in the Straits of Mackinac to the northwest of the lake, Bois Blanc (French ‘white wood’) is 19 km/12 mi long and 6 km/4 mi wide. Much of it is covered by Mackinaw State Forest, which includes several lakes and marshes. A lighthouse is located at the tip of a narrow northeastern peninsula.

Bois Blanc Island

Island in the Detroit River, western Ontario, Canada, 1.6 km/1 mi northwest of Amherstburg; length 2.4 km/1.5 mi; population (2000 est) 50 (year-round), 1,500–2,000 (summer). It is occupied by an amusement park and is accessible by ferry from Amherstburg and from Gibraltar and Detroit, Michigan.
