Bol, Ferdinand (c. 1616-1680)

Dutch painter. He was a pupil (before 1640) of Rembrandt in Amsterdam, and probably the most prolific of his followers in portraiture, their works sometimes being confused. In his later style he tended towards a baroque elegance, and painted a number of civic group portraits.
