Bolivar

City and administrative headquarters of Polk County in southwestern Missouri, 45 km/28 mi north of Springfield, on the Ozark Plateau; population (2000) 9,100. In a region producing grain and dairy products, it has bottling plants, flour mills, and other agriculture-related industries.

It is the seat of Southwest Baptist University (1878).

Bolivar

City and administrative headquarters of Hardeman County in southwestern Tennessee, 108 km/67 mi east of Memphis; population (1990) 6,000. It handles local cotton and timber. The Little Courthouse (1824, the year the city was founded) is the oldest courthouse in western Tennessee.
