Bonanza Creek

Valley in west-central Yukon, Canada; length 32 km/20 mi. It has rich gold deposits, and opens into the Klondike River to the south of Dawson City. On 17 August 1896, George Washington Carmack and two American Indian partners, Skookum Jim and Tagish Charlie, discovered placer deposits of gold here on what was then known as Rabbit Creek, instigating the 1897–1900s Klondike gold rush.
