Bonaparte, Charles Joseph (1851-1921)

US lawyer and reformer. Bonaparte practised law in Baltimore. He founded the Civil Service Reform Association of Maryland and the National Civil Service Reform League in 1881. These reform activities led to a friendship with Theodore Roosevelt who appointed him secretary of the navy in 1905 and attorney general in 1906.
