Bonney, Barbara (1956– )

US soprano. She studied in Salzburg and made her debut as Anna in The Merry Wives of Windsor at Darmstadt in 1979. Her bright, clear voice and attractive stage presence have been admired in such roles as Mozart's Cherubino and Pamina (which she sang at La Scala, Milan, in 1985), Gretel, Gilda, and Manon. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1984 as Sophie, and repeated the role for her debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1991. Her concerts include Monteverdi's Vespers, Messiah, and Mozart's Coronation Mass.
