Bonporti, Francesco Antonio (1672–1749)

Italian composer. He trained for the priesthood in Rome from 1691 and studied music with the composers Giuseppe Pitoni and Arcangelo Corelli. On his ordination he returned to Trento, and spent the next 40 years in hope of a canonry. He retired, disappointed, to Padua in 1740.

Works

motets; trio sonatas; concertos; ‘Inventions’ for solo violin, which may have influenced Bach's works in the same form.
