Booneville

City and administrative headquarters of Prentiss County, northeastern Mississippi, 29 km/18 mi southwest of Corinth; population (1990) 8,000. In an agricultural and timbering region, it is a centre for cotton ginning, lumber milling, and the manufacture of footwear. It is the seat of Northeast Mississippi Community College (1948).

Booneville was settled in 1859. It was the scene of a victory in the American Civil War for Union troops led by Gen Philip Sheridan on 1 July 1862, as Confederates retreated from Corinth.
