History

Settled in 1810, Booneville was a major early river port and an important provisioning point for wagon trains heading southwest on the Santa Fe Trail. It was the site of Missouri's first battle in the American Civil War, on 17 June 1861, a victory for Union troops under Nathaniel Lyon.
