Bootheel Region

Southeasternmost corner of Missouri, along the Mississippi River, comprising Pemiscot and Dunklin counties and the southern part of New Madrid County. Kennett is the largest city in the region. The alluvial area is noted for its cotton, corn, and melon production and Southern character.

Bootheel Region was created in 1818 when plantation owner John Walker managed to get the proposed new state's southern boundary extended from 36° 30' N to 36° N, between the St Francis River and the Mississippi.
