Boppard

Town in the Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, on the left bank of the Rhine, 20 km/12 mi south of Koblenz; population (1994) 16,100. It is the centre of a wine-growing area. Built on the site of the Roman Bodobriga, Boppard was one of the city-states of the Holy Roman Empire and has a 12th–13th-century church.

In the 10th century the relics of St Severus were brought here from Trier.
