Borden, Gail (1801-1874)

US surveyor and inventor. During the Texas war for independence from Mexico, Borden and his brother published the area's only newspaper. Borden also drew the first topographical map of the republic and laid out the city of Galveston. In 1851 he invented a meat biscuit, and in 1853 he patented a process for evaporating milk in a vacuum.
