Borg, Björn Rune (1956- )

Swedish tennis player. A left-handed player, he was known for his fitness and athleticism, and his accurate and reliable groundstrokes. He won the men's singles title at Wimbledon five times 1976-80, a record since the abolition of the challenge system in 1922. He also won six French Open singles titles 1974-75 and 1978-81. In 1990 Borg attempted a return to professional tennis, but he enjoyed little competitive success.
