Sansepolcro

Town in Tuscany region, north-central Italy, 25 km/15 mi northeast of Arezzo; population (1991) 15,700. Pasta is produced. There is a 12th–14th-century cathedral, and a museum containing, amongst other masterpieces, paintings by the 15th-century artist Piero della Francesca, who was born here.

Even more significant absentees are the seven panels by Sassetta; these too areby a small margin earlier than the exhibitions starting date, 1437-1444 theirperiod of execution, and they were for a church in Borgo Sansepolcro, 40 milesaway, not for Siena, and the concept of this exhibition is art for that cityand that city only.
Alberto Alberti, architect, wood carver, and military engineer, was born in Borgo Sansepolcro in 1525 or 1526.
