Borisoglebsk

City in Voronezh oblast (region) of the western Russian Federation, 180 km/112 mi east of the city of Voronezh; population (1990 est) 72,000. It lies in an area noted for its fertile black soil (chernozem) and high agricultural yields, and is home to major food industries.

Borisoglebsk was founded in the 17th century as a Muscovite military outpost, and up to the 1930s was an important centre of the grain trade.
