Borkh, Inge (1917- )

German soprano. She sang in Switzerland 1940-51, and appeared at Bayreuth in 1952 as Freia and Sieglinde. Her US debut was in San Francisco, in 1953, and her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1958, as Salome; she repeated the role at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1959, and sang the Dyer's Wife there in 1976. Her other roles included Eglantine, Leonore, Elektra, and Lady Macbeth.
