Bortkievich, Sergei Eduardovich

Bortkievich, Sergei Eduardovich (1877–1952)

Russian composer. He wrote a book about Tchaikovsky and Nadezhda von Meck in 1938.

He studied law at St Petersburg and composition under Liadov, later at Leipzig, Germany. He lived in Berlin until 1914, when he joined the Russian army, and at Constantinople (now Istanbul) after World War I. From 1922 until his death he lived in Vienna, Austria.
