Bos, Cornelis

    0.01 sec.

Bos, Cornelis (c. 1506–1556)

Netherlands engraver. Born in 's-Hertogenbosch, he may have trained in Rome; he certainly produced engravings based on works by Marcantonio Raimondi. On his return to the Netherlands he became known for his engravings of Italian paintings of his day, which helped to spread Renaissance styles and motifs in northern Europe. He also developed grotesque scrollwork, first introduced by Cornelis Floris.

His brother Balthasar (1518–1580) was also an engraver, probably trained by Raimondi.
