Bosnian CrisisPeriod of international tension in 1908 when Austria attempted to capitalize on Turkish weakness after the Young Turk revolt by annexing the provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Austria obtained Russian approval in exchange for conceding Russian access to the Bosporus straits. The speed of Austrian action took Russia by surprise, and domestic opposition led to the resignation of Russian foreign minister Izvolsky.
