Bosporan Kingdom

Ancient state on the northern Black Sea coast, formed by a number of Greek colonies about 480 BC. It was under a Roman protectorate after the defeat Mithridates VI, King of Pontus, 63 BC, and it was annexed by Rome AD 62-63.

The Huns conquered the region about AD 370. Excavations (since 1816) show that the Bosporan Kingdom attained a high level of culture which combined Greek and local elements.
