Boss, Lewis

    0.06 sec.

Boss, Lewis (1846-1912)

US astronomer. At first a government surveyor, he became dissatisfied with the inaccuracy of the positions of standard stars used. Much of his life was devoted to forming an accurate catalogue of star positions; this work was completed by his son, Benjamin Boss, resulting in the General Catalogue of 33,342 Stars, published in Washington, DC, in 1937. He was director of Dudley Observatory, Albany, New York, 1876-1912.
