Bothe, Walther Wilhelm Georg (1891-1957)

German physicist who showed in 1929 that the cosmic rays bombarding the Earth are composed not of photons but of more massive particles. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1954 for developing the coincidence method of detecting the emission of electrons.
