Botta, Carlo Giuseppe Guglielmo

    0.06 sec.

Botta, Carlo Giuseppe Guglielmo (1766–1837)

Italian historian. In contrast with his life, his historical works are surprisingly reactionary. They include Storia dell'indipendenza degli Stati Uniti d'America and Storia d'Italia in continuazione a quella del Guicciardini fino al 1789.

In 1799 he was appointed a member of the provisional government of his native Piedmont and after the incorporation of Piedmont with France he went to Paris, where, as a member of the legislative assembly, he expressed views hostile to Napoleon. After the restoration of the monarcy, he became rector of academies at Nancy and Rouen. In 1830 he was allowed to return to Piedmont and received a pension.
