Boucetta, M'Hamed (1925- )

Moroccan nationalist and politician. He was minister of foreign affairs 1977-84 and of cooperation 1977-81.

He joined the Parti de l'Istiqlal (PI) when it was formed in 1944 and became its secretary general from 1974 following the death of Allal al-Fassi. He remained attached to the conservative line of the party when it split in 1959 leading to the formation of the Union Nationale des Forces Populaires by Mehdi Ben Barka. His moderate stance within the opposition facilitated dialogue and cooperation with the monarchy.
