Boucourechliev, André

Boucourechliev, André (1925– )

French composer and musicologist of Bulgarian origin. He studied in Sofia, Bulgaria; Paris, France; and Darmstadt, Germany. He has worked as a music critic and written books on Schumann, Chopin, and Beethoven. His works are influenced by Pierre Boulez and include the series Archipel (from 1967) which allows the performer a wide range of interpretative choices.

Orchestral

Amers for orchestra (1973), piano concerto (1976).

Chamber

Musiques Nocturnes for clarinet, harp, and piano (1966), Ombres for 11 strings (based on themes from Beethoven's late quartets; first performance Brussels 1970, conductor Boulez).

Vocal

Grodek for soprano and ensemble (text by Trakl, 1963).

Other

Texte I and II for tape (1959–60).
