Bois de Boulogne

Large park in Paris, France, to the west of the city, bordered by the River Seine; area 8.8 sq km/3.4 sq mi. It was enclosed in about 1800, and was given to the city by Napoleon III in 1852. In it are the racecourses of Auteuil and Longchamp, zoological and botanical gardens, and notable driveways, especially the fashionable Allée de Longchamp.
