Bovey Tracey

Town in Devon, England; population (2001) 7,600. It is situated 14 km/9 mi northwest of Teignmouth, on the edge of Dartmoor. The Bovey Beds are a deposit of sands, clays, and lignite, 60–90 m/197–295 ft thick, which extends from Bovey Tracey to Newton Abbot. The extracted clay is valuable, and is used for pipe- and pottery-making. The church here has a 14th-century tower.

The geological formation of the Bovey Beds closely resembles that of the Bournemouth Beds.
