Bovy, Vina (1900–1983)

Belgian soprano. She made her debut in Ghent, in 1917, in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, and later sang at the Théâtre de la Monnaie, Brussels, and in South America, as Thaïs, Ophelia, and Juliette. Her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1936, as Violetta, and she also sang Gilda, Lakmé, and Manon in New York. She sang in Paris during World War II and was director of Ghent Opera 1947–56, adding Elsa, Desdemona, and Pamina to her repertory.
