Bowman's capsule

In the vertebrate kidney, a cup-shaped structure enclosing the glomerulus, which is the initial site of filtration of the blood leading to urine formation.

There are approximately 1 million of these capsules in a human kidney, each containing a tight knot of capillaries and leading into a kidney tubule or nephron where unwanted fluid and waste molecules are filtered from the blood to be excreted in the form of urine.
