Boxborough

Town in Middlesex County, north-central Massachusetts, 43 km/27 mi northwest of Boston; population (1998 est) 4,160. It was settled in 1680 and incorporated in 1793, and has remained an agricultural centre with orchards and dairying; since the 1970s it has also attracted technological industry and suburban growth. Boxborough is on rugged hilly terrain with its centre, on a hilltop, retaining many well-preserved old houses.
