Boyer, Ernest (Leroy) (1928– )

US foundation executive. An innovating chancellor of the State University of New York and US Commissioner of Education in the 1970s, Boyer became president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 1979. He issued major reports calling for higher teaching and curriculum standards in American high schools and colleges in 1983 and 1986 respectively.
