Boyle, Danny (1956– )

English film director and producer. With Scottish producer Andrew MacDonald and Scottish screenwriter John Hodges he is a key member of the British team behind the films Shallow Grave (1994) and Trainspotting (1995).

Boyle was born in Manchester, England, and started his career in theatre, acting as director of several theatre companies, and directing five productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company. With MacDonald and Hodges he also created A Life Less Ordinary (1997). In 2000 he directed Leonardo DiCaprio in the film adaptation of English author Alex Garland's best-selling novel The Beach (1997).
