Brackett, Charles (1892–1969)

US film producer and screenwriter. In 1932 Brackett was hired as a writer by Paramount, and he went on to collaborate with Billy Wilder, first as cowriter and then as producer. The two enjoyed a string of popular and critical successes, including The Lost Weekend (1945) and Sunset Boulevard (1950), winning Academy Awards for both. Their partnership ended in 1950, and Brackett won a third Oscar for Titanic.

Before becoming involved in the cinema, Brackett practised law and published magazine stories and several novels. He became drama critic for the New Yorker in 1925.
