Bragança

Capital of Bragança district, northeast Portugal, 176 km/110 mi northeast of Porto; population (2001) 20,000. It was the original family seat of the House of Braganza, which ruled Portugal 1640–1910.

Bragança

District of northeast Portugal; area 6,542 sq km/2,526 sq mi; population (1991) 158,300; capital Bragança. It is generally mountainous, and is enclosed on the north and east by Spain, and on the south by the River Douro.
