BrailleSystem of writing for the blind. Letters are represented by a combination of raised dots on paper or other materials, which are then read by touch. It was invented in 1829 by Louis Braille, who became blind at the age of three. A French system called BrailleNet was being tested in 1997 in schools and universities in the UK to enable Braille users to access the Internet using electronic Braille pads.
