Bocking

Town in Essex, England; population (2001) 9,200. It is situated on the River Blackwater, 1 km/0.6 mi northeast of Braintree. The firm of Courtauld's, specializing in the production of artificial silk, was founded here in 1816 by Samuel Courtauld.

The church of St Mary is mainly Perpendicular but dates originally from 1006. The post-mill at Bocking dates from the 17th century. The town has number of timbered buildings of the 16th century.
