Brautwahl, Die

Opera by Ferruccio Busoni (libretto by composer based on a story by E T A Hoffmann), first produced in Hamburg, Germany, on 13 April 1912. The orchestral suite in five movements was first performed in Berlin on 2 January 1913. The story tells of Albertine who has two men over 300 years old among her suitors; she marries her favourite, the young painter Edmund, after he passes a test.
