Brazil nutGigantic South American tree; also its seed, which is rich in oil and highly nutritious. The seeds (nuts) are enclosed in a hard outer casing, each fruit containing 10–20 seeds arranged like the segments of an orange. The timber of the tree is also valuable. Under the Food and Drug Administration's policy Nordlee's results would have required the soybeans' label to disclose that they "contain Brazil-nut protein," unless the company could ensure that the soybeans would never end up in tofu or other soy-based foods. |
