Brea

City in southern California, 37 km/23 mi southeast of Los Angeles and northeast of Fullerton; population (1990) 32,900. It is a trade centre and also manufactures oilfield supplies, metal castings, boilers, freezers, and rubber products. It has grown rapidly since the 1960s as a residential suburb.

Local oil wells played a prominent role in the California oil boom of the early 1900s, spurring the city's growth.
