Breitkopf, Bernhardt Christoph

    0.04 sec.

Breitkopf, Bernhardt Christoph (1695-1777)

German printer and publisher. In 1710 he founded the music publishing business of Breitkopf and Härtel in Leipzig, which became famous for its editions of the classics. The company also encouraged new composers.

The house was destroyed in 1943 and in 1945 the company moved to Wiesbaden. The remains of the old firm at Leipzig were expropriated by the East German government in 1951, but the Leipzig tradition continues at Wiesbaden.
