Bremerhaven

Port at the mouth of the River Weser on the North Sea 57 km/35 mi north of Bremen, in the Land (administrative region) of Bremen, Germany; population (2005 est) 116,600. Bremerhaven, the outport for Bremen, has extensive docks which handle ocean-going vessels, ship repair yards, and one of the largest fishing harbours in mainland Europe.

Bremerhaven is the site of the Alfred Wegener Institute of Polar and Marine Research and the German Shipping Museum.
