Bremerton

City and port in Kitsap County, west Washington, USA, 30 km/19 mi west of Seattle and 50 km/31 mi northwest of Tacoma, on an inlet of Puget Sound near the Olympic Mountains; population (2000) 37,300. The town serves as a port for the area's fish, dairy, and lumber products; the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (1891) is also important to the economy, as is tourism. The city is home to the Bremerton Naval Museum and Olympic College (1946).

Bremerton was laid out in 1891 and incorporated in 1901. It was the northern home of the US Pacific Fleet. The Bangor submarine base is 19 km/12 mi to the northwest. The World War II battleship Missouri is docked in Bremerton.
